About the trip
Experience Vik through history
The Sylvringen tour is named after the beautiful silver saga ring that was found in one of the burial mounds here in Vik. The tour starts with a walk in Vikøyri and the coastal settlement environment by the fjord. We visit Hopperstad Stave Church and Hove Stone Church. Along the way, we pass several burial mounds, and you will learn where the beautiful saga ring was found, as well as other exciting things. Among other things, we are pleased to introduce you to gamalost - a taste experience you will remember for a long time.
We'll take you on a trip to remember
On the trip, we stroll between the small picturesque houses and boathouses that make up the coastal charm environment in Vikøyri. We enter one of the houses that stands exactly as it was left many years ago.
Hopperstad Stave Church is a beautiful sight that one simply must see. The church is one of the two oldest stave churches in the country and showcases the outstanding architecture that is part of Norway's contribution to the world's cultural and architectural heritage. Hove Stone Church may not compare in size to the contemporary cathedrals in Europe, but it is unique to Norway. The church is well worth a visit, especially for the beautiful wall decorations and the copy of the original Hove Madonna.
On the hike, you will hear about the many burial mounds we pass and what was found in some of them. We are also pleased to offer you a taste of gamalost. The recipe is the same as in the Viking Age, and the dairy in Vik is the only dairy in the country that still produces gamalost. Alongside the cheese, local raspberry juice from Vik will be served.
After the trip, we hope you are left with a memory for life, and that you appreciate Vik as much as we who live here do.
