Cultural historical walk in the center of the Sognefjord.

Experience an authentic, vibrant Norwegian town community with wooden house architecture, historical buildings, and monuments in picturesque surroundings.

In the center of the Sognefjord, one arrives at the idyllic Vik in Sogn, where one is met by our guide who will tell about the coastal settlement environment where you find small wooden houses, boathouses, and other wooden structures. Further on, one goes up into the center and gets to taste Gamalost, the cheese with a thousand-year-old heritage that is made here in Vik.​

After the tasting, one continues upward through a lush cultural landscape with green hills, surrounded by mountains and nature. There, one will visit Hopperstad Stave Church and Hove Stone Church, both from the 1100s.. 

By visiting both churches, one can experience the contrast between the stave church and the stone church, which illustrates how early church building in Norway was influenced by both local traditions and European impulses. While the stave church served ordinary people and the local community, the stone church functioned as a status symbol for the elite.. 

On the way to church, we also visit the Mohaugane and Brødehaugane burial mounds from prehistoric times.

Once the guided tour is completed, one can choose to enjoy a nice two-course dinner at Blix Hotel.

For guests taking the trip by fast boat from Bergen

The trip starts at the Strandkaiterminal in Bergen, 8:00 AM (arrive in good time), where you take a fast boat up the coast of Norhordaland and into Sognefjord. Along the way, you will pass through Alverstraumen and Norway's westernmost mainland municipality, Austreheim, before arriving at what is Sogn and Fjordane and the first municipality, Gulen, where the fast boat makes a short stop in Skjerjehamn.

Furthermore, further into Sognefjord, one will drive past the municipalities of Hyllestad and Høyanger, before arriving at Vik municipality. A little way into Vik municipality, one arrives at Vikøyri, where our trip will take place.

When you arrive at Vikøyri, the express boat stops at Vik pier, where our guide will meet you and your travel companions.

We start the tour in Vikøyri itself, where we will tell you about the Sognefjord and the coastal settlement of Vikøyri with its small houses and boathouses. Next, we will have a tasting of Gamalost and raspberry juice. We will then head up into the village and visit, among other places, Hopperstad Stave Church, Moahaugane burial mounds, and Hove Stone Church. The tour includes entrance to the churches.

When the guided tour is completed, you will receive a 2-course dinner at Blix Hotel, and you will have the opportunity to explore the village on your own.

Return from Vik, back to Bergen departs at 5:10 PM, but please arrive by 5:00 PM.​
