Further on\, one goes up into the center and gets to taste Gamalost\, the cheese with a thousand-year-old heritage that is made here in Vik.​ After the tasting\, one continues upward through a lu sh cultural landscape with green hills\, surrounded by mountains and natur e. There\, one will visit Hopperstad Stave Church and Hove Stone Church\, both from the 1100s.. By visiting both churches\, one can experience the c ontrast between the stave church and the stone church\, which illustrates how early church building in Norway was influenced by both local tradition s and European impulses. While the stave church served ordinary people and the local community\, the stone church functioned as a status symbol for the elite.. On the way to church\, we also visit the Mohaugane and Brødeh augane burial mounds from prehistoric times.
