In the center of the Sognefjord\, one arrives at the idyllic Vik in Sogn\, where one is met by our guide who will tell about the coastal se ttlement environment where you find small wooden houses\, boathouses\, and other wooden structures. Further on\, one goes up into the center and get s to taste Gamalost\, the cheese with a thousand-year-old heritage that is made here in Vik.​ After the tasting\, one continues upward through a l ush cultural landscape with green hills\, surrounded by mountains and natu re. There\, one will visit Hopperstad Stave Church and Hove Stone Church\, both from the 1100s.. By visiting both churches\, one can experience the contrast between the stave church and the stone church\, which illustrates how early church building in Norway was influenced by both local traditio ns and European impulses. While the stave church served ordinary people an d the local community\, the stone church functioned as a status symbol for the elite.. On the way to church\, we also visit the Mohaugane and Brøde haugane burial mounds from prehistoric times.
